The Money Tree!

Living Off $20 Bucks for a Weekend

I’m challenging myself to spending only $20 this weekend. I took out the money yesterday and bought a single beer when I went to happy hour with a group of federal workers from all sorts of agencies. After that, I only had $16. I just spent $5 at a cafe.

It’s Friday and I have $11 bucks left. I’m going to eat off the pantry, I think I’ll be making cookies, crepes, and somehow fixing that tofu block that’s been in the fridge for a couple of weeks.

Fortunately, I have rice, eggs, flour, sugar, milk and a fresh shipment from my parents that consists of chorizo, cheese, and membrillo. I know other people challenge themselves to not shopping for a month. Considering we don’t have much storage space, I figure we’d empty our pantry in a week tops.

Also, I’m fortunate that lots of entertainment in DC is free, heading down to the National Mall and hitting the museums is on the schedule for tomorrow. Furthermore, going to a cafe and buying a $4 dollar coffee is actually cheap. How, you ask? Well, I get to sit in a cafe with free wireless for 2-3 hours, sometimes even more with a good book. It’s worth it to me. It’s cliched but, really, some of the best things are free or very inexpensive.
